Time left with your people

Pick one person. Two inputs and an honest number: how many visits, calls and summers may be left, and what one more call a month changes.

Life expectancy: United Nations, World Population Prospects 2024 (2023 estimates, both sexes).

Questions

How is "years left" calculated?

We take life expectancy at birth for the country (UN World Population Prospects 2024) and subtract the person's age, then add a small survivor adjustment for older ages, because someone who has reached 75 tends to live past the national average. It is a rough estimate on purpose.

Is this meant to scare me?

No. The number is the same whether you look at it or not. Looking at it tends to turn "I should call more" into an actual Sunday call, which is the whole idea.

Do you store what I type?

Nothing leaves your browser. There is no account and no server; the share image is drawn on your device.

Where does the idea come from?

Tim Urban's essay "The Tail End" (2015) made the point with his own parents: by the end of high school, most people have used up about 93% of the in-person time they will ever have with them. This tool runs the same arithmetic for one person at a time.

Make the next dot gold

Kinroot turns this into a habit: one gentle reminder, one tap to call, and a bond you can see grow. Nothing leaves your phone.
